Office Visits

Our practice is committed to providing you and your family with safe, gentle, and high-quality dental care. We understand your son or daughter may feel anxious about visiting the dentist. We are sensitive to children's needs and it is our goal to make your little one feel comfortable visiting our practice while we provide the best possible care.

Your first visit is all about your child: his or her comfort, happiness, and health

During your child’s first visit, we will review the dental and medical history forms and formulate an individualized dental care plan for your youngster based on his or her needs and risk for cavities. This may involve X-rays of the teeth and mouth, a thorough dental exam, and in many cases, if appropriate, one of our hygienists will clean and polish the patient’s teeth. For our younger patients and patients who are still getting used to the "dentist" enviorment and "tools", we may use a manual toothbrush to polish your childs teeth, instead of the prophy brush that tickles a little and can get a bit noisy! This is called a "toothbrush prophy" and we use this technique to help children first get acclimated to having someone else clean their teeth besides mom, dad, or caregiver, and can get the job done for what we want to accomplish at the initial visit- a happy child with clean teeth, who likes to visit the dentist!

Bring your little one’s smile, but also remember to bring these items to that first appointment:

  • your dental insurance card if you have one
  • a stuffed animal, favorite blanket, or anything that your child uses at home for comfort
  • an ipod and/or headphones if your child likes to watch videos or listen to music. We do have a tablet with lots of videos and movies to watch, but we don't have headphones, if your child prefers to listen that way

Regular checkups are an important part of maintaining a healthy smile!

The American Dental Association recommends that children visit the dentist every six months for regular checkups and routine teeth cleanings to keep their teeth and gums healthy.

We understand your family has a busy schedule, so when you’re preparing for a dental visit, please remember an appointment can last between 20 and 40 minutes.
